Adult Education

Welcome to Adult Education at Trinity Episcopal Church in the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth. We invite you to explore with us the many intricacies of a Christian Life in a secular world. Each month will bring new topics, events and discoveries as we build our knowledge in the Christian Faith and fill our hearts, minds, and bodies with the love we share in Christ.

Sunday Bible Study Opportunities
On Sunday mornings at 10:40 a.m. in the lounge, Lydia Hiatt leads a class using the curriculum from "Companions in Christ", a small group study which explores classic spiritual practices and invites participants to develop daily patterns that open their lives to a deepening relationship with God and one another. Please contact her at 817-306-8742 or lydiahiatt@yahoo.com for more information.

Also on Sunday mornings at 10:40 a.m., Kimberley Cooper leads a class for those who work with children or have children in Sunday School. Currently the class is doing a study of Acts, using material by Max Lucado. You can get a copy of the Lucado material at Mardel's for $10 or purchase a set from Kimberley when you come to class. Class schedule is tied to the children's program and therefore only meet when there is Sunday School scheduled for them. The class meets upstairs to the right in the last room on the left.

Tuesday Bible Study
The Tuesday afternoon Bible Study class led by Fr. Bill Taylor meets Tuesdays at 2:30 in the lounge. Bring your favorite version of the Bible. Participants read aloud the scripture of the day and discuss the meaning and milieu-istic information about the scripture—why it was written, who was the intended audience, who authored it, what was happening at the time it was written, and what message does it have for us today. Important differences between Bible versions are noted. You don't need to be a well-versed Bible student to enjoy and learn in this class. Come if and when you can. Fr. Bill provides study notes so that if you miss a session, you can still catch up.

Wednesday Bible Study
Rev. Bruce Coggin moderates this class. Bruce has many years experience in reading and studying God’s Word, and he has graciously offered to lead a structured Bible Study at Trinity. His wealth of knowledge and experience will undoubtedly make for an exciting and interesting course of study. Bible Study meets in the Library on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. The class is on-going.

Cursillo is a three day course in Christian Living (Cursillo is a Spanish word meaning short course); the beginning of renewed apostolic calling. It proposes no new type of spirituality, but presents an orthodox, proven method through which one's spirituality may be developed, lived and shared.

The aim is to concentrate closely on the person and teachings of Christ and to provide a means to continue the Christian Life in a secular, and often hostile, world.

The 3 day weekend begins on a Thursday evening and ends the following Sunday afternoon. During the 3 days, the participants live in a community; listening to talks given by both clergy and laity. Each talk is followed by small group discussions.

During the three days, the teachings of Jesus Christ are discussed in a climate of joy and friendship, and celebrated with songs of praise. The basic atmosphere differs greatly from the individual solitude of a spiritual retreat. And unlike a spiritual retreat, a Cursillo weekend can be made only once.

To attend a Cursillo weekend, you must be a confirmed Episcopalian in good standing and at least 21 years old. Your parish priest or vicar must approve, and sign your application. Applications and brochures are in the parish hall. Contact Deacon Janet for details or visit the Episcopal Center for Renewal website at  www.episcopalrenewalcenter.org.
